If you are into 60s-70s drag racing, this new publication is very cool. It is the first annual issue of Elapsed Times ... Lots of Mavs and Comets and 427 SOHC engines ... Loaded with pics from the Car Craft archives ... Fast Eddie and Dyno Don's Mavericks, interviews with John Kaase and Ohio George. They mention the Multi-Maverick, but no pics. This is one of those KEEPER mags. On the newstands NOW!
If you stare at the picture for 10 minutes...a car will suddenly appear in the background. Kinda cool don't you think??
This pic caught my eye.... A Cammer (427 SOHC) Maverick Next to a Boss 429, a Cammer is an ultimate swap I'd love to see an in depth article with more pics on this car
I wander what kind of springs he is using on the front of the car. Those shock towers are cut back a good bit further than what you're used to seeing. I have been wandering lately, about a coil spring that is smaller in diameter, but having the proper spring rate needed, to support the front end. That would be nice, so the towers could be cut back even further.
If you look at pics of Dyno Don's big block Mavs, the front wheels are pushed out to the fender line. Of course, very skinny tires up front too. I am pretty sure that the A-arms and towers were moved out at the same time, and it possibly smaller A-arms were used IIRC. Definitely not made for pointing the car around corners ... just straight.
How do they do that? Is it all new suspension, or just moving everything outwards? Look at all of the extra real estate in the engine bay!!!
I remember The Dyno talking about the Cammer Maverick , when NHRA changed the rules to let the grump run the Vaga . Dyno said that his maverick was a street car compaired to the full tube race car NHRa let grumpy jenkens Run in the class . He was a little ticked because NHRA said the Full tube chassis added to saftey that was why they were going to let it run .
