First of all I should start out by saying are you sure that your car has power steering?

If it is set up for power steering but the pump is not working it will be very hard and very dangerous to try and drive that way.

But if you do have power steering here is a pic of a pump for you. And it shows where it is in relationship to your engine(assuming you have a V8)
Its the black thing on the bottom of the picture, with the belt connected too it. You can see the dipstick tube for the pump pointing up (without a dipstick in it). The dipstick tube is where you pour in the ATF for the power steering.

The pump looks the same be it a V8 or an I6 so look and see if you can see something similar, its just in a different location.

What is wrong with your steering? Is it hard to turn while driving? Manual steering is kind of hard to turn when the car is not moving. Does it get really wobbly?

Unfortunitely unless we know what is happening all we can do is shoot in the dark because we have too little information to narrow down what is wrong to make you think your missing a power steering pump.

okay, thanks. I will post some pictures tomorrow or later today when the light is better. Whats happening is that it is super hard to turn the steering wheel while driving, I.E. car running.

That would be inline 6 :). The pump will be in the same area and look pretty much the same. The bracketing will definetly be different.

Hey markso, I am pretty sure that ATF was intended for use when the rack n pinion came to use, which is not in our cars unless modified. Not that it won't work.. just seems to whine easier and prone to leak a little easier also.

Ford always said use Type F ATF in the power steering pump. If you buy "Power Steering Fluid" in a bottle...you are buying a name. Might as well buy diet water next time you go out and eat.

low tire air pressure can make it very hard to steer a manual steering car. also a bad alignment can. some times people will put a small aftermarket steering wheel on and that will take away allot of the leverage that helps with steering effort.

I just greased all the rubber joints on the bottom and it helped a little bit.
