What do you think caused this?

    I removed the leave springs from my 73 and found this. dscf0015_original.jpg dscf0017_original.jpg dscf0016_original.jpg Anybody seen this kind of damage before, Im wondering what could cause this.

    I don't remember seeing a leaf spring broken in that area before, but judging from the rust on the broken area, it has been like that for a long time.:tiphat:

    maybe the busing was replaced and the new one was over sized. maybe the old one was cut out and they cut the spring a little.

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    I have seen this on S-10 Blazers and Jimmys...Its caused by fatigue. Theres alot of stress on the front spring eye, if you think about it. That rolled end of the spring where the bushing sits is constantly being flexed.

    Come to think of it that does look like a fatigue failure. Ive never driven the car,only had it 2 months. It would seem to me that would make alot of noise going down the road.

    Yep. Looks like fatigue and been that way for a while.:)
