I was looking at the build sticker inside my drivers door and it says" made by Ford canadian motor co for Canada ,Canadian motor co" does anybody else have a Maverick built from Canada? it is an unusual car it was lime green -black trim 302 with a bench seat, sway bars and heavy duty multileaf springs 279 rearend ,what does anyone know about Canadian Mavericks? I know they were built in other countries but I have never heard of anyone on here talking about northern cars.
Mine was built in St. Thomas in Canada. DDB was at that plant a week or two ago and made some pics of it [the plant].
The Canadian Boys could tell you alot more.... ...Of course the St. Thomas Assembly Plant, in Canada, was the Birthplace of the first Mavericks built in 1969...later production was added in the U.S. and other places. No Comets built in Canada. ...I think they were pretty much the same as the Mavericks for the United States....except the Canadian Sprints had a Canadian Decal Badge, instead of "USA". ...I think the Canadian Mavericks still had MPH on their speedometers from the factory....you could put an overlay in KPH if you wanted....and the Odometer also read in miles. ...I'm not for sure if ANY of the other mechanical or electrical parts were different for Canadian drivers based on differing Canadian Laws and Standards...like for instance: seat belts and bumpers??? Update: I did spot some "CANADA ONLY" Emission related parts, for the 1977 Mavericks, in the Ford Master Parts. So possibley only a 1972 and 1977 Canadian Maverick is factory different, depending on the Maverick type and options....this would have made for a good Maverick Trivia Question of the Week! Time for the Canadian Mav guys to lay it down and chime in... Canadian Mavericks drive better on ICE
Can't add much to your list of differences between American and Canadian built Mavericks, but since you mentioned the St. Thomas plant, sadly, it's closed as of this week. The last car to roll off of the line was a white Crown Vic (they're finished too).
