any one out there running one of these pro stock accel coils??? i tried one a couple days ago and had bad problems with mine. it would over heat and not fire. my stock one wouldnt do that at all and i mounted both of them in the same place. im running a petronix setup with accel 8mm wires and wanted to get a better coil to open my spark gap.

I went through 2 accel coils in a 6 month span once, one was the yellow and the other a crome one both were the can style... they had a problem of leaking at the top, I would pull off the main plug wire and see oil/liqued in the hole... come to think of it the car would just die on the highway and if I let it cool off for awhile I was able to start it again...
the stock one never had the problem, I now have a Mallory coil in it now for the last 5 years with no problems.

Could be you had the wrong type of coil for the Pertronix. Get one of their "Flamethrower" coils and it should be fine. Pertronix units use a stock type points coil. A coil intended for an electronic ignition (such as a Duraspark coil)won't function with it.

david74maverick i had pretty much the same problem but went through two chrome ones in two days. it would over heat or something and quit working the P.O.S... ill probably just get a flamthrower for mine sometime....

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Been running the yellow one for 3 years now, works great.

It's on a 200 running durspark. It's the first gen duraspark so i'm only running .036 gap on the plugs.

I was running my accel coils on a Mallory 6AL ignition module... I would assume that they may put out more spark than start but they may not be able to handle a aftermarket ignition.

My yellow coil lasted 4 years before it bit the dust. I replaced it with a $4 junkyard TFI coil off a mid 90’s Crown Vic. If you can run a full 12v coil with a Petronix this will be an option to look into. The TFI is 1-1/2 times hotter than the stock 'can' style coil. I since replace the junkyard coil with MSD name brand TFI. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-5527/
