hi, i installed a motor from a 97 mercury mountaineer into my 74 comet.

my comet had a 302 installed, so i put new motor mounts and dropped the engine in. it looks like the engine is sitting up in the engine cavity 1 to 2 inches higher then the original. any ideas?

im about to remove the mounts and fab something up so i can drop the new engine.

could there be a difference in the car and truck block mounting holes?

    thanks

There is no difference in the block as far as engine mounting. Are you using the fuel injection?

    Here is my Explorer setup.

Could be that the old mounts were collapsed or the new ones are not the correct application. I did an EFI swap as well and it took 3 tries to get the correct mounts. I used stock 72 302 maverick mounts from NAPA

Could be the parts store gave you the wrong new mounts, or mis packaged. Try a different stor brand of mount and compare them against each other.

    A few questions for you
    You got any pictures?
How much of the electronics did you keep ?
What has to be changed to fit it into the Maverick?

hi, im working on pictures... heres what changed,

cut off the tabs on the back of the transmission.
shift linkage / using a lokar setup for the linkage
throttle cable / made a bracket and used a lokar cable
drivers side shock tower / i had to make clearance for the mountianeer acccessories.
new trans cross member / i fabricated a new one
shortened the drive shaft / 1 1/2 inch
made a drop bracket for the steering slave cylinder to clear headers
    custom p/s and a/c hoses
efi fuel pump, line and return line
im starting the wiring harness now.
