I am looking to install hood shocks to hold up hood instead of prop. I have removed the shock towers I have the mustang 2 front end. Do you know where to buy the shocks that will work.
    Thanks Sam

There are many many assist cylinders for sale on Ebay. Before I decided to change my front end into a one piece tilt forward unit and use linier actuators, I bought a set of assist cylinders, from Ebay, that fit a 2001 Explorer's rear hatch. My only reasoning on that purchase was that I own a 2001 Explorer and at least they would fit something if I didn't use them on the Maverick.

I would like to see some pictures of the work you have done to your Comet

    Sam,

Nice work in progress. Glad to see you are close enough that we stand a good chance to meet someday, too.

I got your PM ... decided to answer here, so that others can share the info.

Here are a couple ideas for hood shocks ... these are items based on the 2005-2009 Mustang...

One key difference here is that a stock Comet hood weighs right at 50 lbs. I loaded mine on a bathroom scale a long time ago, wondering how much weight a fiberglass hood would save.

The new Mustangs come with an aluminum hood and weigh approx. 30 lbs. I would expect the valving in the shocks would be perfect for them and a too light for a Comet hood.

The locking billet brace ought to work fine.

I like Bob's idea on Explorer hatch shocks ... I bet the weight is closer. I have an Explorer, too. The hatch is big, and it has a seperate "beer window" with its own shocks that go along for the ride, adding to the weight. EDIT ... a search on the Explorer board just turned up the quote "it takes two guys to lift the hatch off" ... might be a bit too much.

One more thought ... Explorers have hood shocks too.

Go to a RV / Camper store. They sell shocks of different lengths. These shocks are also rated by "pounds"....based on how much weight they are to hold up. They are used on camper storage doors.

    Very Nice Car!!
Are those the stock mirrors that were on the car? If they are, the passenger side one is pretty rare.

No Maverick or Comet ever came with a chrome mirror on the passenger side, so it would have to be off of another car.
