    hey guys!
I have the lil triangular bracket for the alternator that bolts to the head in my hand (D10E-10A336-AB). Can someone tell me which holes are supposed to have a bolt going through it before the alternator is mounted?

This thread has a pic of what I'm talking about int post #7. Mine has an extra bolt in the middle hole... not sure if it's supposed to be there. But it's shiny like someone put it there on purpose :hmmm:
    Thanks again!

This is how my '72 302 alternator mounted. There's also an aluminum bracket and spacer between the head and the alternator. I might be able to find a picture of those if you need it.

ok. From that angle it looks like I might have all the brackets. Thanks! I wish my camera was working...

I have this bracket that goes to the head (looks like with just one bolt farthest from the fender) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...00563199181&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:MOTORS:1123

And I have a bracket that looks like the front mounting bracket on this site (2nd or third picture down depending how u think of it) http://www.cougarpartscatalog.com/albr.html
Is that the same bracket as in the pic, just a different style?

And I have the adjusting, which is easy lol

does it sound like thats it, or is there a bracket behind the alt that I still need? :hmmm:

    Thanks for the help!

Don't know if you can see the bracket between the alternator and head in this picture. Its the best one I have. PM an email address if you want a higher resolution image.

Thanks guys! All those pics were crucial! Got it on there. Ended up putting 2 of the bolts through the water pump and one through the spacer and into the head. The alignment is COMPLETELY off by about a heavy inch or more haha. Gonna need longer bolts and bigger spacers I guess... But it fits!!! :dancing::tiphat::thumbs2::bananaman:2thumbs:
    Thanks guys!

Ok, if you use the alternator bracket in the third pic down, you do not need the triangular spacer(cast aluminum) you first posted. You will need the long 7/16" pivot bolt (it's about 6 or 7 inches long) that'll go thru the stamped steel brackets outer hole and the spacer that fits behind the alternator on the pivot bolt. The pivot bolt screws into the outer most accessory bolt hole in the head. You may also need the correct crank and waterpump pulleys that lines up with the alternator mounted this way. You'll also need the adjuster bracket that bolts from the lower alternator bracket bolt and loops under the alternator. This is the same setup used without P/S and A/C cars. A look at my 331 in the photobucket link below (on about page 6)will illustrate how this setup looks (only I replaced the chrome stamped steel bracket with an aluminum one I made fro 3/8" flat) My crank pulley is a 351W unit and the waterpump pulley is the one that came with the car, I don't recall what the engineering numbers are on it, but it's either a Mav 302 part or a 351W W/P pulley

    Thanks dude! That's super informative!!
I guess I'll remove that cast aluminum piece when I switch to longer bolt (the bolt is already 6 or 7 inches hahaha).
Yea, I don't have p/s or a/c. The pulleys I have for the water pump and crank are the single groove, for 302 with only alt, wp & crank. They seem to line up with eachother fine, making me think it's the alt that should be adjusted.
Think stacking a bunch of washers would work for spacing until i get an actual spacer that's that long?

Rig it up all together, then measure how long a spacer you'll need to go between the alternator and the head, I have some extras I can part with of varying lengths. I have extra alternator pivot bolts too, just need the length to dig one out of my bolt box they're in.

Thanks dude! That would be awesome! I'm constantly amazed by how nice and helpful the people on this forum are.
Went to a couple of part and hardware stores and got bolts and washers. It's rigged up now and only slightly off with 16 washers. I used bolts that were an inch longer than I had, except the pivot bolt. Could only find a half inch longer than what I had for that. Started pouring rain as soon as I got it together, but I'll measure it as soon as it stops :thumbs2:

Just don't use that hardware store bolt, that needs to be a stronger bolt in that position what with the 5 pound alternator hanging off it and the belt pulling against the bolt. Been-there, done that many moons ago, in a land far, far away. The bolt sheared off in an off the track town in the mountains of Colorado.

Good call :thumbs2: Just let me know if you need one of the aluminum spacers to go behind the alternator, I've got a few spares.
