For some reason unknown to me the alternator or something is not keeping my battery charged. I went yesterday and had my battery tested, put a new alternator on it and replaced the voltage regulator and when they hooked the machine up it still says its not supplying power. I think it may possibly be the plug that connects to the voltage regulator but I'm not sure. I would greatly appreciate any help or advice that I can get.
    Thanks

Does the alt light on the cluster work?

I had the same problem one time. With the car running I tested the output on the alternator and got the proper 14.2 volts. Both of my battery cables looked good but when I checked the voltage, with engine running, at the positive cable at the battery I only had 11 volts. It turned out to be a corroded cable but internally at the point it went into the clamp. Like I said, everything "looked" good.

Fusible link at the strarter solenoid. Very common on thses cars. replaced mine years ago when had the same problem you describe. I bet if you check voltage at the back of the Alt. on the big wire you have 14 volts but have 12 at the battery.

there is about a 12 gauge wire that goes from the Alt. and into the harness bundle and then ends up at the battery side of the starter solenoud. It has a big black plastic looking thing on the end of it and then the eylet that goes over the solenoid stud. Cut off that round plastic thing, its the fusible link that is probably popped, and crimp on a new 12 gauge eyelet and reinstall the wire to the solenoid. You could also just run a whole new wire from the solenoid to the back of the alternator.

    power problems

    darren,
The alt light in the dash appears to work. I haven't had the car very long to know I should trust the lights or not but the alt light didn't come on until this trouble started. I don't have an amp gauge working in my cluster.

    mav1970,
Are you talking about the actual battery cablems themselves may be corroded, or that maybe if the terminals aren't tight on the battery it may be a problem?

    Ryan,
The round plastic looking thing you're talking about replacing is on the
    solenoid or the alternator?

    Thanks for the help.

the plastic round fusible link is on the solenoid side of the wire that comes from the alternator. the eyelet comes out of the plastic fusible link and goes onto the post of the starter solenoid that the positive battery cable goes to. this takes the power from the alternator and transfer it to the battery via the positive cable and feed the rest of the cars power throughthe other wires on this solenoid post.

if you have a voltmeter then start your car and check the voltage at the battery, may be around 12 volts. the go to the back of the alternator and find the wire that is held on by a nut, should be the largest wires and the alternator will have a red plastic piece around that stud. Check the voltage on that stud. if it is higher than your battery, like 13-14 volts, then the alt and regulator are working but you arent getting the power back to the battery.
