Went to a small church sponsered car show today. About 80 cars .. mostly clubs, many corvettes, vipers and ferraris .. I was put in muscle car class with a whole bunch of chevys ... mostly 60's and 70's camaros. Only other Ford was a 68 Mustang Fastback with a rusted out door. It was spectator voting and don't think alot of people bothered. I got more positive comments at this show than I could believe. Even the guy in the 66 Chevelle parked next to me gave it a thumbs good. One guy dressed in 50's attire (I think he was there in an old hot-rod) was checking out the car ... then went and got his wife dressed in a Poodle skirt to come check it out. He told me they were gonna buy a Maverick when they got married but his wife didn't like it becuase it didn't have a Glove box. He did tell me he voted my car for best of show he liked it so much. Lots of other people stopped to ask questions and look through the photo album I made of the restoration. One guy told me that when he was young him and his friends called them "sissy" mobiles or something like that. Then he turned around and snapped a couple of picture of it. Also met a guy who was on a 2 month visit from Brazil. Said he has a Maverick he is fixing up but parts are impossible to get down there. He explained to me in broken English that he couldn't get a radiator for a Maverick in Brazil and he needs one. I told him to go to Autozone and ship it back. He told me that it's difficult to have a nice old car down there because either the entire car gets stolen or pieces turn up missing. Camaro's won both trophies in my class .. no biggie .. I had more people stopping to chat about my car than they did ...
Congratulations Dan, Sounds like you had a good time. Your car is way better than any Camaro. And O wow so it doesn't have a glove box who cares.
I dont show much anymore. Cruise ins are my thing it seems nowadays. Dan your car is first rate all the way. With so many shows going on every weekend, it really has become the only way for most shows to function in having participation voting. I will not attend or participate in these kind of shows. I was a judge in our local car club show last weekend. Several participants came up to me and stated that they appreciated the fact that we still have a judged show. I am the last person to care about a trophy or what place I came in, but many nice cars are being left out with this participation vote. The best car does not win. Dunno any solution. I guess most realize the quality car they have anyways. Dan
Except for the entry fee I guess it's better to just consider car show's and cruise ins the same ... actually the show yesterday was sponsered by a huge church and to my surprise was actually free - no registration charge! They had huge trophies and every registered car got a ticket for a free burger, chips and a coke.
I think its funny when I'm around a car show and not even in it, that I have just as many people looking at my Maverick in the parking lot than some of the cars in the show. You can also walk around and hear people saying "did you see that old Maverick in the parking lot, I wonder what year it was, and I haven't seen one of those in years." Kinda Cool. Dan, maybe you could just park outside the event with ropes around your car and save the entry fee. Your car is awesome and it surely wins votes around here.
