hello and thank you for adding me. the ford maverick holds alot of sentimental value for me. i have been wanting to buy one and put my time and money into it for one reason. growing up my step dads pride was a ford maverick and he sold it to take care of me and my mother. back then i was to young to understand the stories centered around such a beautifull car but now that i am OH WOW te things y parents did. so as it goes with most step kid not wanting to share there parent i was awfull down right cruel. well the saying " you dont know what you got till its gone" hit me hard when Darwin passed away in 2001. ever since then i have been scheming in my head a way to get my hands on one. the one darwin had has a long and very sad story behind it and a old school friend jason and i want to restor one for for the same reasons ( his dad baught Darwins maverick). it will eventually be for show but there are two missions tobe held in it first. I am 28 and time is creeping up fast. So my main question and problem is I DONT CARE IF IT HAS AN ENGINE THAT WORKS MY HUSBAND IS A MECHANIC WARE CAN I GET A CHEAP MAVERICK BODY THAT WE CAN HOLD OUR TRIBUTE WITH ! PLEASE HELP US ! ITS A FEBAL ATTEMPT AT SAYING IM SO SORRY FOR BEING A PAIN IN YOUR ASS 10 YEARS TO LATE.
Welcome to the board. It's really nice that you want to put a car together as a tribute. As you have seen, as we grow older, you tend to see life through new eyes. You are not alone in that. You also are in the right place as far as Mavs and Comets go. Great community and wonderful accumulation of knowledge here. You also have all the guys that have been hoarding goodies for these cars for years, too. You have also selected a really good car to want to restore. These cars were everywhere ... not some rare hard-to-find model (try restoring a Plymouth Superbird on anything that approaches a budget ... LOL). Because they were made in such large numbers, you will find a lot more survivors than some other cars. You will still have to search, but they are out there, and prices on them have been held to reasonable amounts. If there is a down side, it is that there aren't many reproduction parts available for pieces that are unique to these cars. Many mechanical parts carry over from other models. What this means is that you should be shopping for as nice and complete a car as you can afford, and being from Ohio, I would suggest that you look south of where they use road salt. There are a half dozen cars on Craiglist in Florida right now. As with Mustangs and other Fords of this era, find one with a solid cowl and torque boxes. A search on the board will show many discussions of this. Happy Hunting!
Looks like all of us Floridians wake up at the same time. When I started typing I was going to be the first to reply. Mornin' boys!
Welcome. Hope you get that car found and built. Good news is they arent an expensive build. Sorry I should say they dont have to be an expensive build. Compared to the more popular cars of the era you can find a solid Mav cheap. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=78867 Not hard to find. You may have to go on a nice road trip to pick one up though.
Good luck with your search. There is a nice car down here in Phoenix for sale that would be a great start for a project. The guy is asking $800, add in shipping and your can be around $2000. I bet you cant find a straight rist free car up there for that kind of money. Follow this link to see and read about the car. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=79382
Welcome from Oregon. This site is great for finding cars and the parts to fix them as there is always someone getting rid of stuff. Other sites to try are Ebay and Craigslist as there are occasionally a few decent looking and priced Mavericks on there as well. Good luck with the search and the rebuild, not sure what you have in mind but if the rest of the guys are anything like me (which i'm sure they are) We love progress pics from start to finish! I also personally think it would be cool, since you are doing this as a tribute, to add something special for the guy the car is a tribute too. Maybe have a name emblem somewhere or do something creative and definitely different.
