I stopped by his shop when he had the original funny car body before reproducing it. It had an original antenna, door handles and tail lights in it. There is an old post about it.

I thought there would be more mavericks than just that one but that one blew the 200 mile mark away! :) maybe I'll get mine to go 200 one day on an open road course. I think it would require A LOT of work.

As far as I know Erick has the fastest actual car,

200MPH will not be easy by any means. The power to get there is easy, and there's many transmissions available that will work.

It's the car falling apart that will be the hard part :D

Especially with the aerodynamics of these older cars.

I'd imagine you'll have to spend a ton on money building a tube chassis, then modernizing the windows, adding body pans,etc...

Hmm...I wonder if a dragon fly Mav would have a better profile for a 200 MPH blast...:hmmm:
    Eh...Never mind...:burnout:

There is a definite possibility that it would start coming apart, I posted something a couple weeks back on a cuda that was heavily modified, and it went over 200, literally parts of it started coming off(starting with the windshield trim) due to the lack of aerodynamics.

Here is the youtube. Parts start coming off of the car at about 3:15 and after that the hood kept trying to come off the car..

and this shows everything they had to do to that car to get it to top 200 mph

It is a very good example of what you would have to do to a maverick to exceed 200mph because of the similar profile of the cars. Either that or make a tube frame dragster and put a maverick body on it...

I hope I don't come across as a smart mouth but I don't think I would be taking my car to those speeds with mirrors and windshield trim and other loose things. My hood raises up at 60mph, I can only imagine what it would do 3x that speed.

when i got my first mav in like 01-02 ish i picked up an issue of mustang and fords magazine, they were two different issues on the shelf like one from the current and previous month. one had an article on Radmavs car and the other mag had an article on a maverick drag car that was running low 8's if i remember correctly and it was like a dark red ..almost maroon color. i bet it would run near 200

So are you thinking about running in the Silver State Classic in the unlimited class or something? Or racing Supras from a 60 MPH roll?

I remember a 69 Camaro running 200+ in the Silver State Classic several years ago. And if there is one thing less aerodynamic than a Maverick it's a classic Camaro. :D
