Hey guys i am in need of a little help. I am about to put mustang floor pans in the 71 maverick but i was curious to see pictures of how other people installed them. I have read page after page but i can not find pictures. I can find pictures of the rear pans but i was more curious to see hoe you guys installed the front pans. If any one could point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.

Since no one else has posted, hopefully this helps a bit.

I wish I would have used a Mustang pan instead of patching my passenger side floor like I did. I cut it back to what seemed to be solid (yet a bit crusty) metal, and as I welded on it, blew through it pretty easily. Ultimately, would have been less work than what I did.

Look at post #19 for pics ...

Where the two round holes on the left are (where the rubber plugs come out) is where the front subframe runs under the pan. If going back that far, you will need to seperate it from the floor. It is spot-welded. At the front of my big cut, is the torque box, multiple layers designed for strength. If you get that open and it has rust, be prepped to fix that first with some heavier steel.

I am a beginning welder. This is some of the first work I have done. The grinder fixed a lot of sins here.

Doing it over and using a Mustang pan, I would have cut a bunch more out ... likely all the way to sides and the tunnel, and then overlapped the pan an inch or so up the sides. Use weld-through primer on the overlaps, and spot weld through holes drilled in that lip to hold it in place. Spot weld it to the subframe, and then stitch weld all the seams.

Be careful welding to the rocker panel. It is galvanized. Grind it very clean, and don't breathe the fumes while welding there.

Others may be able to offer some good advice here too. Some pictures posted of your existing problem would help.

I'm in the process of doing it. Actually I've used very little of the Mustang floor. I'll see if I can post some pictures tonight.

Hey thanks for the replies some good info there. One quick question, the lip on the mustang pan how do you attach that to the car, best method. Cause you can drill through the lip and spot weld it in, or tac along the top lip. Cause i thought of this when i saw the picture with the seam sealer, cause either way that lip has to be sealed. Any help would be great i might just be over thinking this.
    Much appreciated

The Mustang pans, I bought had the lip bent down, I re-bent hem up, to match the way the Maverick ones were. I'm drilling mine, and plug welding them.

Are you using seam sealer on the lip inside the car, and are you using sealer on the bottom side were the pan meets the rocker. Thanks for giving me the inside, i think i will be plug welding mine in.
    Thanks much i appreciate it
