Have any of you ever used a ac condenser as a trans cooler? I was talking with someone that said thats all he has ever used. I am not sure if it would be a good idea or not.

Nope, coolers are cheap enough to buy new.

I agree w/ Dave. Trans coolers were designed for just that purpose, plus u won't have to be concerned abt contaminating the sys w/ something that might be in old/used ac cond. Fifty bucks or so and ur in business. I also have mine hooked in series w/ the radiator to cooler and return to trans. I think that's what most, if not all, mfg recommend.

The explorer I stripped, had a good one, so I kept it , it also looks like the B&M one that I bought. Which turns out they are made here in Ontario..for B&M.

I just bought a b&m super cooler. What do you think about adding a deep trans pan also for extra cooling. I have a shift kit with a 2800 stall so im trying to keep it coll as possible in this hot summer heat here in nc.

I would not use an AC condenser. It's designed to condense a gas to a liquid, not cool hot trans fluid. AC refrigerant as a liquid has a much lower viscosity than hot trans fluid and if it's a serpentine type, most of the fluid will just bypass the cooler due to the restriction. Then there's the contamination issue mentioned already. A good RV rated trans cooler is usually more than enough especially if you mount a fan to it (usually done if remotely mounted)

I ran one mounted ahead of the radiator in series so that in the winter, the trans wouldn't run too cool. They also make thermostats for them for the same reason.

Running a deep trans pan is a good idea also for the benefit of additional fluid capacity.
