The good news is, i found a rebuild shop that is 20 min from my house that will rebuild my transmission. Even better news is that my dad is willing to pay for it. But the bad news is my car is not running right and when i called the shop the guy there told me that i should get it running good first before i bring it to them. So heres the issue, i have been struggling with my carb for some time now and i just rebuilt it but it hasn't changed the way the car is running. im pretty sure the float is adjusted right and the car runs fine in neutral but when i put the car into gear and step on the gas it sounds and feels like the the carb is not getting a steady stream of gas, it sounds like the gas is pulsing into the carb. i really need to figure out the problem soon so i can get the car to the rebuild shop and start driving it again.

Are you sure its the carb? Not a plug wire or other ignition issue?

I've replaced the distributor cap and relictor wheel but not the plugs or the wires. Im starting to think it's not the carb and that it could be timing or bad plugs or wires I'll replace them tonight and see if that helps.

could the problem be if the gasket between the intake manifold and the erg is not a good seal? i couldn't find a new gasket that was the right size to go between the erg and intake so i had to cut one but the material was much thinner than the gasket that goes between the carb and erg.

Might check and see if the vacuum advance to the distributor is working correctly. Disconnect hose at carb, and suck on it there should be resistance, take distributor cap off and see if plate that holds points is moving while sucking on hose.

Now spit and wash your mouth off :)

    G luck

okay i got new plugs but will have to wait for the wires and accelerator pump till tomorrow. and i don't have a deep socket so i will have to wait until tomorrow to get a deep socket to repose the plugs. i took a picture of how the vacuum tube is hooked up cause im not sure if it is hook up correctly.
the vacuum tube is on the right. dscf1136.jpg

Thanks for the help guys, I think replacing the plugs and wires did the trick. When I pulled the old plugs out there was some rust around the threads of the first plug but not on the rest and there was tons of carbon build up on them. Now I barely even have to turn the key and the car starts and sounds great. I'm waiting till tonight to test-drive it so maybe I can get a break from the heat. If this the fix then it's off to the tranny rebuild shop and then new suspension and then paint. Can't wait!!!!!

i wasn't sure if it was the wires so i went down the line touching them to see if they were working, the first wasn't but the second definitely was cause i got a nasty shock. after that i decide that i didn't need to do any more testing...
