New timing chain set and cam question

    Called to order timing set and cam was asked if i had a two piece pump or somthing, do i need to tear it down first to see? And will it be obvious? I dont remember being asked before. 74/302

    They're talking about the fuel pump eccentric. 69-72 one piece 73-77 two piece.

    If your going to change the cam, and timing chain, buy yourself a high strength oil pump drive shaft, it's an easy upgrade, but worth it. Just one extra thing that makes your engine more reliable.

    Thanks guys i was Duh Duh on the phone with summit, and the high strength oil shaft id never thought of. Were would i in the fugure run across a two piece eccntric?

    Is the 2-piece eccentric the one with the inner layer spinning inside the outer layer?

    I had that on mine. Never could figure out what that was all about.

    I think up to 72 its one piece and 73 and after its 2 piece.

    I forgot that I used one off a 289 :slap:

    On The 2 piece, the outer ring spins on the inner piece, this supposedly reduced wear (I guess, I've never seen any eccentric worn out) but the real reason the eccentric design changed was to cut production costs, the 2 piece was obviously cheaper to manufacture.
