Si pulled all the seats and carpeting out of my car to get to workin on the floor. She is a bit rusty in some spots and has a couple rust holes about the size of a quarter but overall looks fairly decent. I have a question on how to fix the rust and what i should cover the floor with. My origianl plan was to use Purple Power Metal Conditioner/Rust Treatment on the bad rusty spots then getting a can of cheap rattlecan bed-liner to help build up those spots. then covering the floor in Krylon Rust Tough Zinc primer, than coating it with Rust Tough Black paint. But what If instead of the black paint i just cover it all in the cheap bed-liner? I know rattle can stuff isnt like the real stuff but i just need it to cover and help stop/prevent the rust. Anybody have any ideas or know any other way I should go about it, ive also thought of POR-15 but dont know much about and was hopin the easier way would suffice. ha.

Rattle can bed liner is a joke...get the gallon size can and a paint brush. Also pick up a can of Wax & Grease Remover and clean things real good before applying the bed liner. http://www.1bad6t.com/Maverick/maverick_5.html
Remove/neutralize the rust...If you are intent on useing bed liner,Coat the metal with Por 15/rust bullet or Eastwoods rust encapsulator first. Then put the bed liner on. however you do it the bedliner should be the finish/top coat...Good luck!!!
alright. thanks for the info. I think im gonna have to get more involved than i first thought. I took a grinder to a lot of the rust and still plan using the Purple Power Rust Treatment on the spots. I heard the bedliner gets hot and melts when used as a floor coating, anybody heard that before? What if i was to use bondo to fill the rust hole and to cover the seams? Would bondo trap in moisture or would it help prevent the rust? So im either gonna use the bondo or bed-liner to build up and cover the bad spots. The I plan on using a wax and grease remover on the whole floor and using a self etching primer on my grinding marks, then covering the whole floor in Krylon Rust Tough Zinc Primer or Dupli Color Rust Fix. Would the etch primer be overkill if i use the zinc stuff? Then for the top coat im torn between Krylon Rust Tough, rattle can bed liner, or POR-15. What would you guys do. I dont have the mans to fix the floor up right but i want it to look halfway decent and help prevent future rusting while staying on the cheap side.
For the rear floors, depending on what your going for, POR 15 has a floor patch system that would work awesome for you. But if you want a 100% perfect car, the only real way to do it, is cut it out and weld it up. http://www.por15.com/FLOOR-PAN-TRUNK-KIT/productinfo/FPTRK/ Now the bad news... that rust in the front, by the dimmer switch, is a little more involved, looks like your torque box is rotten, you'll need to cut that out, reinforce it, and weld it back up.
Like they already said, that torque box needs to be fixed correctly. That's a structural part of the car. The floors are as well to some extent, but not the same. I just finished repairing both of my torque boxes and its a decent amount of work. Not super involved, but you have to have a welder.
You cant use paint...Bedliner (really thick paint) to fill holes. You have rust issues that will require the removal of the rust (left front torque box) as stated allready. If you dont remove the rotted metal...It WILL continue to rot and render any work you do to the affected area...Useless. That rotted torque box is a structural portion of the cars limited framework. It ties the front left frame rail to the floor/rocker and firewall. It has to be repaired properly to maintain the cars structural integrity. The other stuff can be treated and coated if you dont want to cut and weld. Good luck!!!
Bondo and bed liner are cosmetic fixes at best, and not very good ones. That metal will need to be removed and replaced, otherwise you're doing work for the sake of work.
The floor of these cars is the frame. Cut out all the rusted metal and weld in new metal. Then you can use any coating you want on it knowing that the strength is there.
