Well, I finally started the I6-3 speed to v8-5 speed swap. I took out the old engine and trans. last weekend. I've been working on the clutch this weekend. I'm going with a hydraulic setup. Man, I hate working under dashes! Feel like I've been hit by a truck.
Are you using a stock clutch pedal to push the slave cylinder? That car is going to be a whole new beast when you get that swap done.
Yup-stock pedal drilled for the master cylinder push rod. I had the engine and trans. in my cougar before I sold it. Changed the car completely. The maverick's lighter that the cougar so it should be fun. I bought a kit for the slave cylinder. Here's the link for the slave cylinder bracket: http://www.mustangdepot.com/OnLineCatalog/Transmission/hyd-clutch.htm It's part number JV-T5-HCB. Not cheap, but it's supposed to be made for it-hope it works.
That CNC slave cylinder is a pusher unit, isn't it? That's what I bought for my Cleveland/Top Loader combo. I just have to find room for it with the driver side headers in the way.
It's a pusher, mounted behind. The mustang/cougar cable kit mounted in front and pulled. There doesn't seem to be a lot of pedal travel. Guess I'll have to wait and see. Hope the clutch doesn't feel like an on/off switch.
I don't know anything about four speeds, but my three speed pushed from the front using the stock mechanical linkage. I toyed with the idea of finding one of the 4 speed overdrives to mate up to my six since it's in great shape, but I ultimately wanted the v8-T5. The 5 speeds with the late model mustang bell housing have a different setup.
I never saw a clutch fork that needed to be pushed from the back like that - are all the 5 speeds built that way?
The difference is in the bell housing. The clutch fork fulcrum on an 87-93 mustang bell housing is on the passenger side requiring a pull from the front or a push from the trans side. My three speed bell and probably your 4 speed bell has the fulcrum on the driver's side requiring a push from the front. Got nervous; had to go out and check.
Thanks I looked at the link you gave us and read way too much into the first photo on the site of a slave mounted behind a fork on a transmission and that stuck in my head
There's a lot of new stuff on that page. I hadn't been there in a while. The under dash linkage looks interesting.
good luck with your project! i have the same setup in my car and am also using my stock clutch pedal. i made all my brackets in auto shop at school so that saved me some money but i love it! hydraulic is definately the way to go
