I certainly can't give any advise regarding the Flowmaster's as I have never been impressed with their products, but can say that with my 97 Mustang Corbra I went from the factory duals with 4 cats to the Bassani setup before putting headers on it (which consisted of 2 cats instead of 4 with an X) and gained over 8hp to the rear wheels. Then I bought the off-road X which took the cats off (when I raced the car in the Silver States Classic in the 130mph class) and gained another 5hp to the rear wheels.
Now with that said every car/engine combination is different, but if it were my car I would try the X pipes because I believe they will give you better bottom end and a smoother running car.

    IMHO

a x pipe is supposed to help with exhaust scavenging. that will help with the efficiency across the board. ideally your supposed to locate the x where the exhaust flow starts stall out in the pipes. this spot gets very hot. you can locate it by putting some thing on the pipes like crayon or paint then do a full throttle pass then look to see where the color is burnt the most. thats where you should locate the x.

    2 questions for yall.
1 is the X in the same on all mavericks, and if so where would it be if I was running the hooker 6901's?
2 is the x over the tranny, if so would you have to worry about it heating the darn thing up?
