My '71 has a body color engine bay, code 3, bright red. It has suffered two battery failures over it's lifetime and a lot of discoloration. I'm doing a little work and I have the majority of it cleaned out. I was debating repainting it red again because the red paint on the car is so faded it would just look strange. My other option is just to scuff it all down and repaint the thing semi-flat black, so I'm putting it up for a poll!

Alternatively, we've been using some splatter paint on a few race cars we've been working on, it looks pretty good on the blue, black, and orange cars, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about it on mine yet.

Why wud'nt the splatter look gud on a red car? When u say splatter u mean like trunk paint? If ur trying to cover up or hide something, I wud chose the semi-blk. I think either wud look Ok w/ a new paint job, however, I wud go w/ blk if I had old, orig., or beat up paint. My car is red w/ semi-blk under hood; it was like that when I bought it. Im sure previous owners did that when they put in another engine...

I vote for the satin black, its just my opinion, but to me I think the black sets off the body color better than it all being one color

Did mine black for ease off maint. and spot repairs. I wouldnt mind it Blue body color but I know it would get all marked up,scratched and chipped. Looks good on show cars but I prefer black for drivers.

Satin Black ... goes with any body color and won't clash with colorful engine accessories.

I guess it all depends on what your going for. One of my cars I kept green, the one I'm working on now, will be black, but then the car will be black....

I like body color. But, then again, it is just a show car. :D

body color looks good, especially if your going for the original look. I prefer black as I feel it sets off the bay and makes the blue engine (or whatever color your engine is) pop.

I like both black and body color depending on the circumstance..... In your case I would use satin black..... I the exterior paint was real nice or you were painting everything I would probably go body color, but then again?????

I think it depends on how you want to present your car. If you want the stock look then it was body color. They only used black on front of the radiator core support on Grabbers only. Satin black looks just as nice and it can easily be done. The only thing is some people ask questions mostly when there is another Maverick or Comet in the show with body color. My car still has the orginal paint. When it was new it was Ziebarted (rust proof). 70% of the engine bay has rust proof on it whitch is black so I just blacked out the rest of it and it looks great. If I were it refinished the car I would strip and repaint body color.
