Drove the Mav to work this morning! I believe it's about 25 miles with the route I'm taking, being half freeway and half city streets. Didn't get one wave or thumbs-up here in snobtown (Overland Park, KS), but I didn't expect any. Only heard one car alarm go off driving up the ramp in the garage too... maybe I just didn't hear the others.
Good job Matt.....enjoy the fruits of your hard work! Car alarm?????? Try rolling the old Harley around town with straight pipes
I had a 73 Mav with cherry bombs and pipes out the sides like yours. My workplace had an indoor parking garage and when I took that thing to work ... man did it echo!
Thanks guys! Of course, everyone I had been talking to about the engine at work had to go out at one time or another to see and hear the new motor. Got lots of positive comments from them. Made a lap around the campus looking for the radar trailer so I could try to get a reading on my speedometer. It was to no avail however, because they didn't have it set up for a change. Did get alot of people to turn their heads though. Well the trip home was as uneventful as the trip to work. Except for my stop at Advance to get a throttle return spring. Came back out and the motor wouldn't turn over. Figured either the starter was heat soaked from the headers being so close, or the alternator wasn't charging, possibly because the belt was a little loose. They checked my battery and charging system (after somebody qualified to operate the test machine came outside... I said it was a NEW battery sir.. ) and said my voltage regulator appeared to be bad. I have a couple spares I may try on there. I'm debating whether to mess with that or get my 1-wire alternator mounted. The pulley is a bit off and it threw the belt the first time I tried to start the car.
Decided not to do much with car last night. Noticed this morning when I tightened the alternator belt that I had not hooked the voltage regulator back up when I put the alternator back on. DOH! Working good now. Checked it with the multi-meter and it read 13 volts with the car running, 12 with it off. That will probably come up a little when the battery gets charged back up. Drove it to work again today. After I got here I shut it off, and it started right back up. :bananaman
