I have a 1970 Mav with a manual column mounted shifter. The shifter is broken where it meets the column. Can anyone provide me with an exploded view of the column assymbly? Any clues about where I can get a replacement part? Thanks, TwinMavs.
If its 69.5 with key on dash you are in for long search. MAVAHOLIC has one I belive that I have been talking with him about getting for a spare when he takes it out of the car its in. If its late 70 with key on the column you may be able to find one at a junk yard. There are still a few around. No one makes repro parts. They usually break inside at the arm attached to the inside of the collar. Cant be welded cause its potmetal. Remove steering wheel and turn signal collar , pivot pin for shifter arm and it slides off.
Thanks for the reply, It's a '70 with the key in the column. Someone told me that FORD seldom reinvented the wheel and that more than likely any column mounted shifter, such as those in old F150's would probably work. Any ideas about that?
I have an old three on the tree Maverick column that is good for parts. Let me know what part you need, or if interested, the whole column to take the parts off of. norcalmavnut@hotmail.com -Corbin
Not sure about the 70 with the key on the column, I know it is shorter than mine which most of the truck 3 on the trees I found were shorter than mine so they may interchange. While looking if you find a 69.5 key on the dash 3 on the tree keep me in mind and let me know where it is. Trying to keep mine original but may become impossible being these 30+ year old pot metal arms tend to want to break if there is any bind. Thought about taking one to a machine shop to see what they would charge me to build one out of steel or aluminum. Gotta feeling that would be a bit pricey though. There was a 3 on the tree key column in a salvage yard outside griffin a few months ago if I can I will try to take a look, even if Corbins works out xtras are nice to find. Good Luck
