Hope im posting this in the right section, if its not sorry Anyways im thinking about putting a scoop for my mavs carburator but ima need to cut a whole in the hood to let it come out. im hoping to get one that looks like this guys (link-----> ) because its nice and low close to the hood or to make it look like this guy's (link---> ) so my question is how do i do that?? do i have to hire somebody?? wut can i put around the edges if i do cut? Thnx for the help
The first car looks like he was trying for the "Mustang II / Cobra II " look. I cut the hole for mine with a die grinder and an abrasive cutting disc. Link to it below.
i think the problem im having is knowing how big to cut the hood for the scoop to fit through it when i lift the hood up and down
You want it about 1/2" larger overall than the scoop (or aircleaner assembly) poking thru. I went a bit tighter on mine and unless you pull the hood forward as you're raising it, it'll catch slightly on the front of the aircleaner top. I got the width dead on with the hole, but was lacking slightly on the length in the front.
pend te extra money and get the street scoop II. its only 14 1/2 inches long. the ones in those videos are 21 inches and way too long for the car. i have the short one on mine and it looks much better on the motor IMHO

Thats a great article I like the way they did that. I guess I am a little more back woods than that. I do not take the hood off to do it. I have done it several times by just getting a longer all thread rod for the carb, and adjusting it up until it just barely leaves a mark on the underside when hood is fully closed. If unsure on a starting point I used play dough the first couple times. From there is your center, lay down a blanket on top of engine, drill a hole through your hood to transfer center to the top of the hood. Now you can work from top of the hood instead of awkward angle from underside. From there you can start outlining your scoop and get out the cutting tools.
