I read the explorer rear disc install post in tech. Have searched and found several donors locally but they have either been made out of gold or had one side already scalped. Front 5 lug disc conversion is all but done, little paint and some TRE's, so i am turning my attention on the rear. Are there any prepackaged kits or conversions that you guys prefer/have experience with? When i swapped rear discs on my '85 bronco all i had to do was bolt on a plate and mount up some chevy front discs and the rear was done, got a brand new 8 lug rear disc setup for approx 300$ ... looks like the little Mav is gonna be double that? (it would be cheaper to use the dana 60 or 70 that i have laying behind the shop, narrow it, cheapo axles and voila, 8 lug disc brake rear Mav)
The lincoln/explorer brake swap is the cheap alternative. Have you tried a pull it yourself junkyard? Out here we get a complete read end with brakes for $150, other states usually have cheaper prices than out here..... If you have an 8" then you can use a brake kit for a small bearing 9". But they're not cheap, they start at around $600.
If you've got a stock 8" rear, go look at the rear discs on the 92-up Crown Vics. If not mistaken, the backing plates bolt onto 8" rears and make a fairly easy & chear swap.
That Explorer setup should still be available from Ford Racing new. It's also listed on the Speedwaymotors.com site for $389
What about this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...r_id=222297363509&ua=WXF?&itemid=270711548176 ebrake and rubber lines included for 369$ to my front door ... is this correct for the Mav 8"? if so i'll go with it ...

second source ... same part number: http://www.buybrakes.com/store/ZDCRD02 Summit sells same kit as well (matching P/N).
went ahead and ordered a set ... will post up results ... actually went to napa and priced all new disc parts for an explorer and the total came to 240$ ... so when you throw in locating an axle, pulling the used backing plates and then buying the Napa replacement parts it seems like money well spent for me ...
I looked at Mustangsteve.com he sells a braket that fits the 8" and gives the model year for ford calipers and rotors that will fit or you can buy his.
