Well...I was happy to receive a shifter hump, that I purchased from a member on here, and so I played around with the exact location and fit of it. I'm not sure if I'm exact on this initial test placement. Before I mount it permanently, I will probably test it with with a smaller hole in my original floor pan hump, when I hook up all the OEM linkages and rods to the tranny, kick-down, and column lock-out later. Anyway...here are some pics that I took inside my 72 Grabber, which show a reference point for measurement, and various views of the shifter hump sitting there. I slid the hump up, and moved it all around until it seemed to be in the best fitting location. If anyone has a Mav or Comet that originally came with the auto floor shifter, and the carpet happens to be out, maybe you can take some measurement, and chime in. By the way...even though I like the original blue color, I will be changing to a different color on my upcoming restoration. - Roger Measurements from the leading edge of the "middle ridge" (shown in the first photo): 11 1/4 inches to the front edge of shifter hump, 13 1/4 inches to the front edge of the shifter hump inside cutout, and 17 1/4 inches to the front/inside-the-cutout dimple on the original floor pan hump.
If you see a car that was factory floor shift, it's surprising how small the hole was for the shifter. it was cut between the dimples, and was nothing fancy.
it will snug up when in the right position... make sure the shifter base bolts to the hump before install... Frank...
