Just stripped out the interior of my car and the
floorboard rust is way worse than it first looked. :(

It runs on both sides of the car from where your
heels would be when sitting in the car to up beyond
    where the dimmer switch mounts.

Are there new pans available anywhere?

Do any other Ford pans cross to this application?

How did you attack this problem?

    HELP! :(

Our 76' Stallion was rusted pretty bad in the same areas. As far as I know, nobody makes replacement pans for the front floorboards and I'm not sure if Mustang floor pans would work or not. We make our own pans out of 16 gage sheetmetal and form them to fit.:smash:

Dan, As a resident of Rustbelt, USA I will be your first customer for the sheet metal seeds.

If I plant them in a square in the backyard will I grow a tin shed?:D

I believe that the area you are referring to repairing is made more difficult by
the torque boxes. They are either in the way, or also damaged by rust.

Mine had light pinholes in a couple of spots. We sandblasted those,
welded them and primed the floorboards, then coated the entire inside
    with bedliner.

It seems like someone here with some savvy would buy some Mustang
pans and modify them to fit and sell 'em to those that need them.

I am not at home around sheetmetal so it won't be me anytime soon.

well the initial tests have proven you would either sprout a shed or an outhouse,,, the devil is in the details right now.

Bigal, your cowl is toast based on the pictures you posted. The reason your floorboard is gone is because the cowl is leaking water directly onto the floorboard. I have the same problem in my car, it's just not as advanced yet. So just a word of warning, if you're going to fix the floorboards, fix the cowl too so it doesn't happen again.

the pic of the floors was of my 71 grabber..his might not be as bad ......but from what i can tell the cowl might be ok.... this car has been setting a long time they left the vent open ....i put water down the cowl and it was running inside till i closed the vent ..have not put my head under and looked hard to see the cowl with the dash in

Yes, I figured that might be the case. We may just
have to pull that apart and do a little upgrading.

The vent being open or close has nothing to do with bad or good cowl vents. If you can pour water down the cowl, and it comes in with the vent "open"...but doesn't when the vent is closed....then you still probably have bad cowl vents. See full details about this subject at:

Just remember this...should you find yourself in the need to use a two-story outhouse, always take the top seat.:D
