any one ever put an 8.8 out of a foxbody into the maverick? convert it over to leafe spring perches and all that? or know of anyone? just wondering....have a few laying around and have plenty of gears...just seeing what i can use...with out costing me an arm and a leg... thanx
I was going to do one for my Mav, but I found a 9" for it..... I have done them for a couple old Falcons I have had in the past..... Very easy conversion, I just put small 9"/8" ends on the 8.8 and used a set of 8" 28 spline axles with the drum brakes, and the regular 28 spline 8.8 trac loc..... Worked great both times.....
Yes they have to be cut down to the stack Mav width and offset and you put the 8"style housing end on it at the same time..... You will no longer be using c-clips either.....
I have one under my maverick right now. I just cut all the mounting tabs off and welded spring perchs on. It is about 1 inch wider per side so wheels will need deeper offset.
sweet so you use stock axles from 8 inch with the stock 8.8 carrier? thats bad ass...i think im going to do that...and ill put a mini spool with my 4.88s...and then later down the road i can do the the 8" disc brake conversion i saw on the threads...oh yeah one more thing...what do i do about the perches? for the leaf springs?
i did the same put a 8.8 out of a mustang, changed the spring mounts ,found a rear in the junk yard with 3.73 gears and a posi for 150 bucks
Did mavericks ever come stock with an 8.8? Cause when i bought my maverick the guy said it had the 8.8 in it but i dont remember if he put it on it or if it came that way...i also know i have 3.55 gears i think.
they never came stock with a 8.8. does your diff have a cover on the rear that unbolts? if it does it could be a 8.8. if not then its a 8" or a 9"
I have an 8.8 with discs I was going to sell. It has 4.10 gears and a track-lock. After reading this I might have to find someone to do the welding for me.
