I used Motor Flush from Autozone. Ran it for 15 minutes instead of 5 LOL Exhuast smells different... Cleaner maybe? Also picked up some oil pressure.. Maybe 5 PSI. Although this could be from the Castrol SYNTEC 20W-50 I'm running in it now too.

so its a good idea to use it? someone was saying if you have over 50k miles you should take off your oil pan so all of the gunk can come out.

Cooling system flush, yes, do it. most mainstream brands are about the same. Engine flush, absolutely not! I never flush an engine. I've seen way to many issues afterwards, everything from carbon in the pan, valve stem seals in the pan, no oil pressure, etc. Just change the oil short of a 1/2 quart and add 1/2 quart of automatic trans fluid. Run about 30 minutes and change the oil again. I have run the trans fluid up to 100 miles but I can't comfortably tell someone esle to do it. The trans fluid will break up the sludge and carbon but I does a better job of keeping it suspended in the oil so it drains out with it and it's not so aggressive it fills the pan with trash.(unless it's really bad, then your better off preparing for a rebuild anyway)

btw: don't forget to change the oil filter afterward and remember that whatever goes in the pan WILL go throught the oil pump(pre-filter) and once you clog the oil filter, it's circulating in the rest of the engine.

i used the radiator flush on my mav and it started to leak at one of the freez plugs because it freed up the dirt

p.s before i put the 302 72 maverick engine in my 70 i pulled the freez plugs to replace them and there was about 1/2 a cup of DIRT behind each plug :naughty:

Yep, I replaced my oil pan a couple years ago and cleaned it out before putting it on.. Thankfully it wasn't really dirty to begin with lol

As for what injectedmav said, hopefully that won't be the case with my engine! I haven't heard of any adverse effects after doing it but I will definitely keep an ear on my engine :yikes:

Rad flush is very corrosive. Its a crap shoot in my experience.

Engine flush no way. Dont like it. I have used trans fluid in the past.
