I was on the road today with my job so I had time to think about "stuff". With the recent discussions about neutral safety switches, I was thinking about my own car and wondering where a column shifted automatic transmission neutral safety switch is located? Is it in the column?

My 69.5 was originally an automatic and now has a top loader 4 speed. I removed the column automatic shifter and the indicator and plated the holes. Today I was thinking about that old auto neutral safety switch I never did anything with. I'm sure some wiring in the original harness, going to that switch, will need to be jumped in order to disable the function or the car will never start. Was the neutral safety switch located under the clutch pedal on standard shift cars?

Maybe just installing a new switch under the clutch pedal and moving the automatic switch wiring over to that location or doing away with it completely.

yes, it's on the column near the firewall. it's on the coumn itself about 3-4 inches before the column goes thru the firewall into the engine bay

There is also a clutch safety loop wire available in the harness, even on automatic cars.
