hehe, I'm not a diehard Chevy fan, or a diehard Ford fan, I just like cars :) Doesn't matter who makes it (don't like imports tho), just as long as the are cool.

I gether than some heavy modification would be needed to plop a 350 into a mav, so I guess the best thing is to stick with a 302? Maybe stroke it later on (assuming I get my hands on a Mav).

Thanks yall :) One thing that really attracts me to the car is the price! (and the fact that hardly anybody has one!).

The price for mavericks is real good. Like everyone else says, if you payed 1000 for the maverick, it has gotta be in good condit.

Don't underestimate that 302!!! THe 302 is fords equivalant to chevy's 350, and in my opinion, just as good.

Prices for a built 302 have come WAY down!! it is cheap nowadays to build a 302.

I would pick up a roller 302 motor If I were you out of an 87-93 moder. You could get it for $100-$500 running. Puts out 225 horse stock. Pull it apart and built a 347 stroker and top it with a giant carb (or fuel injection if you want the extra work) That combo will pull 12's all day, poss 11's and never break.

Well, thanks so much for all of your help guys! But, it looks like I'm not going to get a Maverick... I will probably get an 87 Monte Carlo Aero SS in January.

Just wanted to thank you guys for all the help you provided me!! (non of the Mavericks worked out, I found a few, but they didn't work out.)

If you have until January then why give up on the maverick? Monte Carlos are lame. THey are heavy and way restricted by emmissions. Mid 80s vehicles are not good to modify because they are new enough to have high emmissions standards but not new enough to effectively run clean enough with mods. None of the Mavericks you are going to see will be nice or cool enough at first. You have to look past that at what you can make of it.

    Ryan, you are partially wrong

The mid-late eighties 5.0(302) motors in the mustangs are HIGHLY responsive to mods. The have a very prehistoric version of a computer, remember eec4? my 86 doesn't even have a check engine light. New enough to have emission standards??? emission standards have been tightening up ever since the early 70's. The early computer systems finally began to make these motors efficient, yet the computers were still so basic, that most any mod will take without the computer throwing a fit about it.

I can't speak too much about GM's, but I see to remember in particular plenty of Buick v6's (grand nationals) running 12-13 seconds in the quarter mile in the eighties. The eighties are what began the second horsepower war/revolution. If the monte carlo has a 350, it will likely take very well to mods.

However, there is a good chance that it is not smog exempt depending on where you live. Many early mavericks ARE still smog exempt.

I would have loved to see you Error 404 go with a maverick, but you are nonetheless going american and keeping the hobby alive, have fun!!! BTW, every time you look at a mav, you know you will have that annoying tug in the back of your mind that says "you should have....." Avoid the guilt trip, just do a maverick

Jeremy; had one of those Monte Carlo Aero Coupes, and they all came with an HO305. Pittifull (sp) engine. Tuned it to perfection, they all had a 4bbl Rochester, and it still got about 12mpg, downhill. Beautifull car, just slow and inefficient. If you are after a looker, the Monte is it. If you are after the ' not everybody has one' thing, with style, a bit of speed, and get a lot of attention, get the Mav.

I too am a new member (just today) and trying to come up with a fair selling price for my parent's 1972 Maverick. Can you help me price it.

Its 1972, 4 door, auto, AC. PS, V-8, 28,000 miles is all. My mom has been the only driver. Excellent condition with only a few minor dings. The front door inside handles are both broken....and need replaced. Other than that, it is ready to go. Its in Colorado Springs.
