OK, still scheming over my dash. I was able to get it out and I'm driving without a dash which is fine. I am trying to figure out how to redo the mounts on my dash so it's more easily removable. I guess the only factor is the bolts that hold the dash to the lower part of the windshield. The other bolts are easy to remove.

I'm thinking you could weld pieces of angle to the underside of the dash, toward the windshield. When you get it back in place, add matching brackets on the cowl to bolt the dash angles to.

    I've had a few
Tack weld small nuts to the top side of the dash and drill out the original tabs a bit so you can just use screws from the bottom up instead of the top down.

I've been considering both of those options as well. I'm removing my windshield to remove my dash, but after I reinstall it I'd like to be able to remove it quickly for a gauge swap, or radio install, or wiper motor fix, or rewire, or.......... whatever else pops up. The thing thats appealing about the idea of brackets to the firewall is I could use larger hardware and have the same size bolts at both ends the column and the firewall. No tiny screws to mess with.

Isn't the steering column a little wobblie without the dash?

isn't the column held mostly by the plate behind the dash?

My column right now feels pretty solid. The bracket is still in place and the whole dash is out. There us one bolt that holds bottom of the dash to the steering bracket.

What about using a couple of those dzus tasteless used to hold on race car bodies? They seem solid and take a quarter or half turn to remove

You'd think I'd know that...I was just in the garage, and one of those brackets was sitting on the floor...and.....
