since i cant pull the switch with out the key, can i take one of the door locks to locksmith and have him make a key from that. or are there other options?
Did you get a new lock cylinder from the auto parts store? I have had good luck on old cylinders using the "new key" to get the old cylinder out. then replace with new cylinder.
no keys to car at all so i punch out the trunk lock and replaced with the lock from my 74 parts car. then took door locks from the 74. saved them hoping to pull the column cylinder and get one made to match door locks. cant get cylinder out with out key. so if i take one of the original door lock to a locksmith can he make a key from that?
get every ford key you can and try it. you would be suprised at how many cars one key will fit. most lock smiths have a large selection of ford keys. they will just try them till one works. then they will cut a copy of that key.
Might try this. Also just type in ignition switch. There are other threads too. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=1027&highlight=ignition+switch Good luck.
Bryant I think the only other ford key he has is a 1998 or so key which will be too new to use in this situation. Some of us have to many keys laying around LOL Thats why what I do in this situation is go to auto parts store and get a new lock cylinder with keys. Use the new key in the old lock cylinder to get the lock cylinder out then replace with new lock cylinder that you just got from auto parts stores. Ussualy just takes a little wiggling to make the key work. Old cylinders will use just about any key thats close in my experience. I've done this same thing numerous times if I can't find a key to make it work to get the cylinder out for replacement.
I had a 71 Ford truck and was sitting in a bar in Washington one time. A friend said he wondered if his Ford key would fit my truck. I told him if it did he could have the truck. He went out and jumped in and driove away. He did bring it back though.
This should apply. This is the company that I work for now. http://www.cougarpartscatalog.com/keycode.html I have cut keys from codes a couple of times now. From the above link, it shows a Ford door lock cylinder from the drivers side door. It should have a code stamped on one of them (could be passenger side). Same with trunk lock and glove box locks. That code corresponds to a depth and position on a key.
Wow that's cool to know, Thanks!!! I use to be able to get them from Ford, but haven't in along time. You work at West Coast Classic Cougar, that's also pretty cool !! Good plug for you guys on Gearz.
Thanks Dave! We sent Stacey David a rather large crate with a roof cut, and many other parts, both new and used for his Cougar project. Like all of these 'restifacation shows' the vendors donate the parts for the featured advertising and company plug. It has paid off pretty well for us since the Cougar segment first played. We have gotten lots of new customers, and it has re-engaged many other Cougar owners with their projects. The Gearz show is on the Speed Channel. For those that do not get the Speed Channel, our segments can be viewed from our front page. http://www.cougarpartscatalog.com/ The Gearz Classic Cougar, with a Kaase Boss 429 stroker engine will be showcased at SEMA when finished.
keys a friend borrowed my mav once and locked the keys in it. At that time he called the dealer with the vin and got a key made. Doubt it would be that easy these days though.
Every time I'm at the pull-a-part, I'm the guy taking all the ford keys, just for this reason. When I got my Maverick I had no keys for it, started trying keys till one worked, happeded to be the Cougar's key.
