When we took the seats out of my 77' Maverick a few years ago, I decided to pull the build sheet out and look at it. To my surprize, I found not only the sheet for my car, but attached to it were the build sheets for three other cars as well. Two were for Mavericks and one was for a Comet. I have always wondered what ever became of these cars. Are they still on the road? Did they end up in the bone yard? Or, by some stroke of luck, could one of them belong to one of us? I realize the odds of one of us owning one of these cars is pretty poor, but I figured what the heck. Stranger things have happened. So, just for the fun of it, here are the specs. for the three unkowns. All these cars were built at the Kansas City Plant. First up is a 1977 Maverick 4 door, VIN # Q7K92T172678. It had a 200 6 cylinder and automatic transmission. It was Light Green, interior code UA (?),black vinyl top, A/C and power steering. It was shipped to Omaha. Next up is a 1977 Comet 2 door, VIN # U7K31L52076. It had a 250 6 cylinder and automatic transmission. It was Bright Saddle Metallic with a tan tooled vinyl bench seat interior. It came equiped with A/C, power steering and had wheel opening mouldings and rocker mouldings. It was shipped to Cincinnati. The last one is a 1977 Maverick 2 door, VIN # Q7K91L172310. It had a 250 6 cylinder and automatic transmission. It was Bright Red and had a red vinyl top. The interior was the black tooled vinyl with the bench seat. It was equiped with power steering and power brakes. This Maverick was shipped to Los Angeles. Wouldn't it be cool if one of these cars was still around today?
You should try to check those numbers out on Carfax and see if they are still alive today. Does anyone have a Carfax account??????
According to Carfax, the car has to be from 1981 and up. Considering how old these cars are, it's a good bet that they may not be around anymore, but you never know.
The schedule date for my car was July 1. I'm not sure if that is the same as the build date. If it was made in 1976 for the 1977 production year, then it was made on a Thursday. Maybe the night before was poker night on the assembly line.
