I was wandering where I can get the 302 Maverick motor mounts and 302 frame mounts to put my 302 in my 70 Maverick? Also I know I should get a bigger rear end but I was wandering if it would be ok to put the 302 in my car with the stock rear end and gears?
Post in the wanted section for what you need and someone will have them....as far as the rearend goes....what do you have it there now?
rubber motor mounts can be bought at about any parts house for around $20/ea., the metal frame stands that the engine mounts sit on will need to be bought used from a maverick/comet only, if ur car is indeed a '70 it will have the 7.5" rear end in it and you will DEFINATELY want to replace that with the stronger 8" unit available in any maverick or comet from '71-up and while ur at it, you'll want to grab a V8 trans crossmember, engine brace (belly bar) and it would be a bad idea to go ahead and go 5 lug (mainly for the better stopping power, whether u put disc brakes in the front or drums either one) hope this helps
Will I be able to have the 302 with the rear end I have in it now? Do I have to have the cross member and the belly bar. I'm not sure what either of those are.
Tranny crossmember and the belly bar are helpful. Go to Napa for the motor mounts. Do not buy the motor mounts from Auto Zone. I bought one and it would not fit. 8" rear would be better but the 7.5 will work. It just won't last if you hammer it at all.
Ok thanks a lot, eventually I'm going to replace the rear end. Do I have to have the cross member and belly bar though or will it work without it?
Crites has the frame mounts for $99. Which is a great deal if you ask me. People sell used ones for $100-150. You need the V8 tranny crossmember because it has two humps that allow you to run dual exhaust. You could run without the belly bar but its a good piece to have for strength reasons, especially with our unibody cars.
Not all 1970 Mavericks came with the 7.5 rear...some of the later 70 models came with the 8 inch rear end.
That's the brake drum. Look at the center of the rear end. if it has a plate that comes off the back then it is the 7.25", if there is no plate on the back then it is an 8".
