I'll start off by saying that I do not currently own a Maverick or Comet... yet. I've been on these types of forums a lot and know how informative and useful they can be for general and advanced knowledge. My partner and I have a fledgeling business in the works and one of our first projects will be a Maverick as we see these awesome cars as a relatively untapped platform, meaning not many people build prime show cars out of them, but we intend to try to change that. Btw, J&M Kustoms is the new business and my name is Josh. I look forward to posting progress of the build and sharing knowledge and and hearing feedback and pointers as things progress. Any input would be greatly welcomed

    Thanks guys (y)

This all started when I was offered a fresh 351W. I needed a project car to put it in and settled on a Maverick, and things went haywire from there. On tap is the 351, 5spd, and '03 IRS from a cobra. With a twin turbo set up at 10psi we figure to get somewhere in the 5-600 horse range. The plan is for this to stick to curves like glue, be streetable, and run on pump gas. Still haven't decided whether to cage it or not as it won't be a true racecar, just a really fun street car.

Those are a few things on the board, any comments or suggestions are welcomed

Figured I would join in on the fun too! Name is Mark, the other half of J&M. We both have many many thoughts for the car, when we find the right one, and our thoughts are both going in the same direction, make a nice, clean classic with the old school muscle look and new school technology, should be a fun build!!

Can't wait to see how you get that IRS to mate up with the stock chassis :thumbs2:

With all the power that you are adding plus you are asking the car to stick to curves like glue, you may want to cage it for stability. My 70 isn't a race car either but when I removed the entire front shock towers, I needed to put the upper strength back in so the full upper cage, front to rear, came into being.

Yeah, we've decided to cage it, at least a 4 point for now. As far as the rear, I'm going to guess that there will be a lot of fabbing of the rear sheet metal and chasis to make it work, honestly, will probably be the longest part of the build.

    I would imagine so :yup:

What I've found to be helpful, in my build, is an internet search on the same subject matter that had been previously done, by someone, to an early Mustang. The early Mustang/Mavericks are so close to one another in design. Just an inch or so adjustment in width or length and anything already done to a Mustang can be adapted to a Maverick. Kind of like a Camaro/Nova. (y)

:thumbs2: My thoughts exactly, after looking them over it looks like a really similar platform.

I would think that a 4 point cage will not be enough. These cars seem to flex a bit under higher horsepower. At a minimum I would put an 8 point in it with sub frame connectors. That will also aid you in your search for the sticking to the road like glue. There are ways to do the door bars that does not interfere with entry and exit of the car.
