How many cowls does an AC car have?

How many cowls does an AC car have? Does 73 factory AC car have 1 or 2?

 

Factory AC cars have one cowl opening on the passenger's side. The driver's side does not.

 

OK Thanks poured water in the grille in front of the windshield on the 73 and noticed it leaked on the drivers side before I bought the car, so got to it from underneath today and noticed rusted out where it looked like a cowl should have been so didnt know if it had been patched over before or never had one there. Going to grind clean from underneath and have friend weld plate over it and seal it.

 

I did the same thing on my car except I didn't weld the plate back in. I cut out all of the rusted panel. I made a new panel that was about and inch bigger around than the piece I cut out. After cleaning and prepping the cowl and the new piece I used 3M panel bond adhesive to adhere the new piece on. I didn't want to weld anything so I could keep a good seal with the adhesive. It worked perfect, no leaks, and was actually pretty simple to do. Been 5 years now and still holding great!

 

That is great....thanks for the advise, right now should be simple to do that.

 

Just make sure the new piece fits good before you bond it and put a good thick bead of the adhesive on it.

Have you double cheked to be sure that the 2 side cowl drains are clear and open?

 

Not yet but going to do that, just removed pedal set and all today to redo brakes and clutch and to check cowl from underneath. Thanks

 

My own cowl vents rotted out from leaves (acorns too - damn chipmonks)jambed up in there for way too many years

 

Looked at it again and fitting good is going to be a job, hole is right at edge where it turns up and in area where cowl would have been so has that offset there as well, it isnt just a flat area so may have to get butty over to look at welding it. not sure yet.

 

It doesn't look like you're going to find anything to weld to.

Mine had, what looked to be only pin holes, until I started cleaning it and the affected area just grew and grew and grew.

Really looks like you are going to have to take the top off of it to get that all fixed.

 

It gets pretty thin......

 

This may be an option....its not like the car is all original or anything!

man, that's some rust...
