I have a 70 maverick. Grandma stock. 200 / 6 , 4 lug. I'm building it into a drag car. I would like to swap it to 5 lug drums due to the zero drag that I can dial into the shoes for the track. Will the 5 lug drum hubs swap onto the existing spindles, or do I have to grab the 5 lug drum spindles as well?

I know the 4 lug and 5 lug drums take the same bearing and seal. Somebody that has done the swap can tell you if there is a difference but I know that is the same.

All drum spindles are the same, however keep in mind you will also need to change the backing plates, brakes, and wheel cylinders, because the 4 lug setup uses a 9" brake while 5 lugs use a larger 10" brake system.

You need to change out the system. I have done this before. You also need to change the rear end.

I already have a 5 lug 8" out of a later maverick so that's ok. just lookin for the front end.... I like the self energizing aspect and zero drag of the drums....brake fade isn't really a concern, in drag racing you really only have to stop once....:)

Yep, 1970 is the only Mustang that shares the Maverick drum spindles. All Maverick drum spindles are the same, 6 cylinder and V8.
