My brother and I bought a 75 2 dr. mav. a week and a half ago. Both of us are new to being around them. We both did research on this site for a week before our purchase to learn something. We are both college kids with not much extra change laying around but want to start somewhere on it queston is where. I tried turning it over this weekend the 250 turned good but had weak fire. Should I waste time and money getting it running if we plan on replacing it with a 347 later? If we built a motor making between 350-400hp would the 8in. be find or should we find a 9in.? How hard is a t5 swap? Are after market body panels easy to find? Is there any difference in the front fenders from our 75 to say a 70 that has blade bumpers? We really want to go with the small bumpers if its possible. Sorry with all the questions at once, just excited to start.
The 9" rear end from a 57 wagon or Ranchero is a direct fit, but you'll have a very hard time finding one. A Mustang 9" is just a little wide but you could fix that with the backspacing. Again a 9" from a Mustang is nearly impossible to find and really expensive. The 8" is pretty solid with an automatic behind it. If you launch it with the stick you'll blow it pretty quick. I'd try to get the 250 running and then work on all the safety stuff like brakes, shocks, tires lights, etc. These are things that will still need to be done wether or not you go to the 347.
I popped the trunk this weekend and we got lucky I think there is a set of granada front spindles complete with calipers and they spin free. I think I read somewhere that we have to get a master cylinder for the disk conversion, is this right? It doesn't have power brakes and we will more than likely not put power on it.
