been going over it for days the Judging at the round up Wilbur greens maverick was in the super modified class ?? Cowl hood a little work to the 302 dual exhaust makes it super modified……. I sit thinking How when Rudy’s flames with a 351w and a ton of other mods and Mavaholics 72 sprint was just in modified ???..... just don’t see it ..might be me just thinking to much ...........all great cars but don't realy see any of the 3 in a super modified class

Read what you have just posted. Nobody was hurt, or died. I am gonna take a hard line on this, and I dont want to see this hashed out on this board. The classes, as they are setup, clearly placed each car in its class. Posting this with the winners name is unaccpetable to me and is unfair. I view him as a good friend and will stand nose to nose with you on this. You have the power to delete this post. To debate it on this board is unfair. I will gladly answer any questions and respond to any comments on my email address.

We are only human and not perfect. If you have an issue with classes, it should be brought up before judging, not after. We have guidlines and stick by them as best we can. And by the way, Rudy's car was in the Super Modified class. Next year get more involved and lend a hand. Then you will see what we are up against.

    Ouch....a porcupine!!!!

The rules are clearly written. There are other cases as well. For example, Tony Simpson's Maroon Maverick (Shawn's Dad) is in the Modified class.....not the Semi-modified. From outside appearances it would "appear" semi-modifed....maybe even stock. But look under the car....an AOD trans. Now it is considered Modified....and that is the reason why. Brent Mulvany's Light blue car is considered semi-modified... just because it has a hood scoop....and that is the only reason it isn't in the stock class. I could go on and on. The fact is, the rule comittee of 5 people set-up these rules, and everybody knows them ahead of time.

Now go to Carlisle and watch a 5.0L EFI Maverick win the stock class.

I don't think anyones being critical here, for my part its a matter of ignorance when it comes to judging. I don't care if I place first or last. Doug was kind enough to take a few minutes and explain that cars are classified first; stock, modified...etc. etc. and then judged on a point system in various categories. It would be nice to know for future reference what the categories are and how many points per category and the total number for all of them could conceivably add up to.
The judging of cars is a very small part of the Roundup, as it should be, my take is that Mav/Comet owners are a different breed of car enthusiast and could really care less where there car places in a show among their peers. At least thats how it is for me.

Rick, I couldn't have said it better. Like they say an understanding beats an arguement any day. I don't think Dave is trying to stir up trouble, heck he didn't even have his car there, and I believe he registred anyways. I have to admit I went to the round-up to meet others who love and enjoy these cars as much as I do, and it just happens they had judging going on. I haven't ever registred any of my cars at a show before. So, I have to admit, I didn't know much about the categories, and how the cars were judged myself, and I still don't. Not a big deal! :) I know for some they take it more seriously, but for me, it is about the people, admiring other cars, getting ideas, and having fun! :D

One suggestion for next year, would be to have available a description of the classes and basically how the judging works. Just pass it out when the cars are registered.

MavToy, if you are reffering to my post, I was referring to Dave Moore aka MaverickGrabber. How about going to the new members area and introducing yourself. :)

Tell about your car etc., I didn't know your name was Dave also. :)

There was a copy of the classification rules at the Roundup and was available for anyone who wanted to see them. It was printed in the July/August 2003 edition of Shorthorns. So if you been a member for at least that long, you already have a copy of them. I also believe they were posted on this message board but that I'm not positive about.
As far as judging, there are 5 catagories with a maximum of 10 points per catagory, per judge. Two judges judge each car so you have a maximum of 100 points total. Hi score wins. The catagories are:
    1. exterior
    2. interior
    3. engine
    4. undercarriage
    5. trunk

The classes won't ever fit you perfectly. ;) I was looking for a daily driver class last time! hehe. I never placed very well at the round-ups. But it doesn't matter really. I just built my car how I wanted to, and enjoy it!

One thing I saw that I liked a few years back at a Ford show, the only awards were ten equal trophies for the 'ten best' cars in the show. No first, no tenth, just ten equal trophies. And the crowd and competitors voted. I liked that a lot.

But whenever you have trophies and winners there will be people that gripe, just remember that the judges and rule makers are trying very hard to do the best they can. :)
