    Anyone have any knowledge about Gt 40Y aluminum heads?

    I just did a google search on them and as with anything some like them and some dont, got to be better than stock heads with work done to them though

    Thanks for the reply. The heads I was looking at are on e-bay. One rocker arm pedestal has a welded repair. I had a friend look at the pictures. He is a professional welder. He said it didn't have enough penetration in the weld, and we couldn't figure out why it broke in the first place.

    More than likely the break was caused by overrevving the engine causing the valve to possibly contact the piston and instead of the pushrod bending it found the other weak point. Could've also been the wrong pushrod/cam lift combo. Aluminum is very hard to weld due to its porosity and heat conductance. The metal has to be very clean to get good penetration, so they probably didn't get the area clean enough before they attempted to weld it.
