So I've got my engine put back together. Pulled my back trying to do it, so I had my local shop finish it off. Head has been checked, new gaskets etc. But it lopes sometimes when driving, and won't idle worth beans - it races. I can jiggle the gas pedal and it slows down some, but not like it should. The engine also sounds like a plane when I'm sitting in the car, but not as loud outside.

Soo, I'm thinking I need to fiddle with the carburetor, and I looked at the tag and it says 7130S. I know it's a carter single barrel carburetor, made in 1972. It's mounted on an inline 6 200 cid.

Anyone know where to get a carb rebuild kit? Is the carb really the problem like the shop says? Can I get a better carb? How can I figure out where the noise is coming from ?

you should be able to order a rebuild kit at any auto parts store. just take that tag number with you.
check to make sure the choke is opening all the way when warm.
make sure the throttle linkage operates smoothly with nothing binding.
check for any vacuum leaks. you can squirt water around the carb and intake manifold and if there is a leak the idle will change when the water momentarly plugs the leak
