Or you can torque them down in two steps. Step 1 55-65lbs step two 65-72 ft lbs.

"There's directions for these things? must have thrown those away with the box." Who hasn't said that before? Only women read directions. :p

No, it doesn't. It says to use thread SEALANT if the bolts go into a water jacket (see "small block Chevrolet" for reference). Spray the threads with WD-40 and torque them in two or three steps.

As far as getting your "respect" and the "punk" comment.......don't flatter yourself, kid. :rofl2:

i have seen plenty of directions for proper head bolt installation and never have any of them said to use lock tite. recently ive seen a change in arps instructions. they say to use there thread sealant on the threads if the bolts go into a coolant passage and to use there thread lubricant on the head bolt washers.
shadowmaster, just put justin on ignore. you obviously cant stand justin. put him on ignore and he will just disapear from your life.

Agreed. Been in the trade for 20 plus years and havent used loc tite thread locker on head bolts yet. Loc tite thread sealer yes. Loc tite thread sealer is not thread locker Justin. The sealer is a white color. If you used anything it should have been sealer not thread locker. Neither is needed on our head bolts though.
I have removed head bolts with thread locker on them. It aint pretty.

i have had coolant seapage with head studs on every ford motor ive used them on. ive had one arp head bolt leak coolant on my current motor. i do recomend using the sealant on the head bolts and studs.

Isn't there a revised torque sequence for the 5.0? Something about the intake lifting the head causing head gasket failures? Would that be important on a 302 as well? I know there are differences in the water passage shapes and may be changes in the number of intake bolts.
I've always just used light oil on clean bolts and never had a problem
I usually torque in at least 2 steps usually 3. Never lost a head gasket
I did have a problem with an intake leaking oil into an intake port on a 351W once. Never figured out why. I replaced the gaskets and had no more trouble with it
