The Vacuum tank on the my 73 came apart at the valve. Does any one know a good source for a new one? Has anyone tried to repair one? What does the rubber valve do? Regulate the amount of vacuum? Thanks for any help
yea my mechanic put silicone around the head which helped but mine didn't come apart. I took it out completely and it works great still. If I floor it I just get no air coming out of the front vents instead out of the windshield vents. You can go to the junk yard and find some made out of plastic that are round in the ford trucks which is were I got one out of.
I used a plastic vacuum tank off a Chevy truck for mine, with a check valve. Not exactly original, but it should last a while and it doesn't look like a rusty Folgers can.
A cheap fix for now I sealed up mine with epoxy and installed a $2 fish tank check valve in the line. It seems to be working. I can't see paying $78 for a can with a valve in it. Thanks for every ones input.
The tank needs a one-way valve in order to hold vacuum. Otherwise it would just fill back up with air whenever you opened the throttle, thus not doing anything really except maybe making your vacuum accessories a bit more lazy. So you have a T. On one leg you have the vacuum tank, on another you have your HVAC vacuum source, and on the third you have a check valve, which is then connected to engine vacuum. That way no matter what the engine is doing, your vacuum diaphragms always have enough vacuum pressure to work.
