I searched but didn't find an answer. I'm about to install my back glass in my '72 Maverick 2-door. The Ford Shop Manual shows a tape seal layed down all around the window, on the pinch weld on the front edge and sides and on the flat section at the trunk. Tape seal would be put down before the glass/weatherstrip was put in place. I don't have the tape seal but I'm thinking I can just put a bead of sealer on the back edge (along the trunk and up the sides a bit) before the glass/weatherstrip is put in place and then (just like on the windshield) after the glass is in place, put sealer between the weatherstrip and body on the front edge and both sides. Anyone done it that way? Think it should work? The installation instructions in the Ford Shop Manual are for a back glass with a pinch weld all the way round like on the windshield. There's no pinch weld on the Maverick along the trunk.
OK, I'll find some. There's a HUGE variety of thicknesses and widths in both single sided and double sided. Maybe something like this? [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Black-Double-Sided-Glazing-Tape/dp/B001G0VWZU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1282455696&sr=1-3"]Amazon.com: CRL 1/8" x 1/2" Black Double Sided Glazing Tape: Home Improvement[/ame] This may solve another issue too. I've been wondering what to use to reseal all the joints between the plastic air tube parts of the heater/AC system. Would the double sided Butyl tape work there too? Seems like that might stick the pieces together, seal the joints and still allow disassembly someday. Thanks for your help.
Last time I researched that, I found a web sight that said only 3M 0859 bedding and glazing compound should be used to seal old car glass.
yes 3m bedding and glazing is what you need i just went thur a glass company that installed my rear wind wrong just make sure you can get the glaze down in the weather strip in the groove that sits on the pinch weld and youll be good to go
OK, back to plan A. I have the 3M 0859. Seemed like that should work but the tape shown in the Ford Shop Manual made me wonder. Guess I'm good to go. Thanks.
Looks like single sided tape was used to seal my back glass (stuck to pinch weld). Should I use 1/6" x 1/2" or 1/8" x 1/2"?
