i got a kit off of ebay and put it on and after a test drive the alternator light came on and now it's messed up ??? is it spining it to fast

And now that i am thinking of it i tortured the alt pulley down without any spacers to stop it from hiting the housing (with my new 420fp electric torture gun) but NOT till it stopped do you think that could have messed it up :( not the smart thing to do)

The alternator has to spin at 2000 rpm to put out full charge. If you have an undersize crank pulley and an oversize alternator pulley you may not be spinning it fast enough. Spinning an alternator faster should not cause any problems - as long as the belt stays on.
If the fan is not hitting the case and the pulleys line up then it should be fine. Did you get the STA wire back on the alternator and are you sure it is tight?

To be sure check to make sure that the alternator and regulator are properly grounded and all the wires are connected and tight.

now it's working but is tripping like when it works it only has 12.9 12.7 volts but when i hold the rpm at about 2500 rpm it will read 13.3 to 13.8

it's funny i think that the pulley was to big because it would work then it woulden't and when i would work it would only charge 11.8 to 12.3 at idle so i took a look at the 92 mustang and the pulley was smaller then mine only a very small amount
so i swaped them and mine works like normal now at 13.6 to 13.7 at idle :bananaman

going to the car show at tognotties auto part's on 08-21-2010 :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy:

    yah i got this kit

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

i had to switch the alternator pulley-and put a washer on the back to stop it from hiting the housing of the alternator on bolth pulley's

and had to open the water pump pulley hole's more to the center on each one to get them to line up and i put 2 washers on the back side if it to get it to line up with the other pulleys

the crank pulley went right on no problems :)

ford alternators come with about an 1/8 spacer for behind the pulley
