Hi I rebuilt my Carter carb off my 200 it went together fine but not sure what position to put the choke cover in. It has a spring in it. Should there be any tention on the spring? Does the choke need to be closed or open? any help would be great Thanks!:hmmm:

it needs to be open to get air into the engine. the more close the more rich fuel mixture, if you close it the maverick will stall or puff black smoke from the tailpipes. that sistem is for when you start the car and its cold it revs the car until its hot, then it opens more. that why some cars have electric choke it gets hot it opens. the other way was with a choke cable behind the dash. if in doubt just leave it open.

the instructions that came with your carb kit should have the infomation to set it where it is suppose to be from the factory. i would look through there and if it's not in there i'm sure someone on here has a book that tells you where to set it. i have one at home just don't know where it is right now (it's in a box in my basement).

No tensoin on the spring when installing it.
There is a tang in the choke housing on the carb body that the end of the spring on the cover fits onto. The two must be connected for the choke to operate properly.
When its hooked up properly, you can push the choke plate shut and the spring will push it open. To adjust it follow the instructions that came with your rebuild kit...
    Good luck

Thanks for the help guys. I will let you know how it goes.
The instructions that came with the kit seemed pretty vague and didn't go into any specifics, and didn't help explain things.

    cheers.

    choke position problem

The carbs back on and the Mavericks running good. I needed to make a new carb to manifold gasket it didn't come in my rebuild kit and the parts store had no listing for the correct size. I thought that was weird

    Thanks for the help.
