Can we get historical license plates on our cars?

here in Arkansas, we have antique tags. Cost $17 once only. No reregistration. I was never told of any type of mileage or Day of week restrictions. I had a local PO stop me for tail lights art 3:30 am on the way home from work. He called it in but was more interested in what motor i had than that I had a tail light out. turns out he used to have a Falcon with a 289 and had a hard time keeping rear tires on it. Go figure

Our historic plates in Ontario are for show purposes only and the police frown on using them for cruising. I run regular plates on mine to avoid the hassle but I do have a nice set of 1972 plates that I am sending off to have verified for use next year.

In NC the rule is you can use a plate from the year of manufacture -- just have to carry the registered plate in the car and produce it on demand.

I picked up a '72 plate that had never been used at a car show/flea market in Raleigh. Colors that year were Grabber Blue on Wimbledon White. :) Looks good on the Sprint.

That is some nice paint you got there, Russ!

TX doesn't care what plates you put on, as long as you pay the extra fee. I used 74 because they were YOM, but if I wanted to put some on from 1932, and the plates were in good enough shape (still have some of that reflective surface, I guess that is what they are looking for), you can use them.

When i went to the DMV, They told me the Year of the plate had to match the year of the car. Hmmm.

Thanks, Scott! Nothing like a case of "Sonic Blue Pearl" to brighten up the day.

    Chaz,

That's what I've been told too (but only by friends), not by the DMV. These guys have had a lot of experience though... I had a '72 dealer plate pegged on E-Bay, but it went for over $100. It was blue on white for '72 instead of green on white.

When i was First thinking about putting on the 72 plates i called the DMV and they asked if the car was a 72 also and i said yes and she said it can be done, but if it was another year stamped in the plate they would not do it. But i dont know why i would want a diffent year on my car. Im just going by what the DMV told me.. Maybe she was mistaken..

    Chaz.

got my year correct plates today. Pic here. Now to figure out how to mount the front one as Ohio requires two plates.

There was a factory bracket that mounts to the front valance to run a front plate. You may try posting in the classifieds and see if anyone has one.

Got my 70 plates registered to my mav today. Onetime cost 0f $31.25. No yearly sticker or renewal needed. Down side is the car can't be used for "general transportation". Only to be driven to shows, paraids or events. You get a historical plate that you have to keep in the car, with the year specific plates on the car.

Thanks, Ill have to do some looking around and see if I can find the same thing. I would love not to run a front plate.

i know in north carolina you can run a tag with a specific year on it (like i plan on running my 71 tag on my 71 grabber :D) but you have to have a registered tag somewhere in the car (like under a seat or something)
