I have been shopping around for control arms for my 71. seems like most are built in china. some with out the ball joint some with. anyone have a line on something better? a few bucks extra is not as important as doing it right the first time.
Keep your control arms and just rebuild them with moog parts! http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...List&suggestion=&searchTerm=upper+control+arm
Good quality UCA cost around $80-$100. I wouldn't spend my time on rebuilding the originals. Getting the shaft centered and torque without collapsing/bending the arm is job…if the threads don’t strip getting the shaft out or back in place.
I agree but in some cases the aftermarket arms are more flimsy than the factory ones!!!! sad but true.....
Every car I've done needs the shaft, never personaly had any problem rebuilding them. Perhaps that's due to my excellent choices of pristine rust-buckets, or just dumb luck
ok, im going to rebuild my uca instead of buying the over seas one's. but im still not sure if i need to replace the shaft or just have new bushings pushed in. moog parts- got it. just need to do it right the first time.
What are Granada style bushings ? The differents from Maverick ? Where would you get Granada bushings ?
Moog Problem solver bushings and shaft. Part # K8233 This kit replaces the metal on metal shaft/bushing with rubber bushings similar to those used on Chevy uper a-arms. No greasing required, ever. A second advantage is that the width of the shaft/bushing is about 1/2" narrower per side. This will allow you to do the Shelby 1" drop of the a-arms without worrying about interference from the shock tower sides.
The kit comes with the shaft and two bushing ends that screw into the UCA and screws on to the shaft at the same time. I recall explaining this to you before. The factory style bushings do NOT get pushed or pressed into the UCA. It also has to be centered as it all goes together or it will bind.
