I do agree the economy has an effect in most cases. However, in this case I don't believe this was a factor. They had outstanding attendance/participation, esp., for a one day event. Most of the license plates were from Illinois & Indiana. I really did'nt pay a lot of attention to plates - which I normally do. I believe economy has more of effect when one has to go distances where they have motel/lodging expense, elevated fuel cost to cover longer distances, several meals out of resturants, etc., etc., etc. For a trip of maybe 2-4 hrs roundtrip I don't believe that's the issue. When u see some of the money invested in these cars what's the cost of a tank of gas to make a local gathering . Most of these cars were driven - I don't recall seeing any trailers on the grounds of the event and don't recall seeing any in the immediate area.
here in the great golden state where rust is not a factor, cars don't rot as easy and shows are a dime a dozen every weekend. it is the exact same way here. no matter what the year it is always the same! i have been going to the biggest all FORD car show each year for the last 15 years (except last year) and there are about 2000 to 2500 fords!!! the biggest turn out for mavericks was 7 that was it 7-8 maybe one time there were two comets! everyone who owns a maverick in so cal probably knows someone else who owns one. it is very small world! in that show the pintos out number us always 3 to 1 easy sometime 4 to 1. i know it sucks but that is the way it is. to be honest i don't think you will be seeing any more. though i do talk to people who are sick of the camaros and mustang and want to jump on the maverick bandwagon but really they can't find one... and if they do i just think you will be seeing the same cars over and over again and maybe the same car just owned by someone else. that is just the way it is. dave that is a nice way of saying they were throw away cars. lol!
This fall I'm thinking of going to the Mustang Round-up and all Fords show in Park City, Utah in hopes of seeing some Maverick's, Comet' and Pinto's. I think it's weird to go to car shows and see all the Brand New Mustangs, Challengers and Camero's entered, there cool but I like to see the oldies i.e. before my time.
OK Maverick Man! I GET IT. MESSAGE COMING THOUGH LOUD AND CLEAR.. I won't be looking for our cars in any numbers.
I was at a all ford show yesterday in Surry, BC, canada, and there were 165 cars present and 2 mavericks. Usually when I go to a show I am the only one. I like driving something a little diferent. Bev was there with her blue grabber and then mine. The show was put on by a local Shelby Mustang club, so the majority of the cars were mustangs and cobras but that was all right. We heard a lot of good comments. Just enjoy the fact that not everyone has one. That is what makes them special.
Big Mustang and Ford show in Polk City Fl. I'm the only Maverick or 70's Comet. I know for a fact theres a heap of em around here too. Anybody see me?
Hey MOJO thanks for representing the comets/mavericks I have seen first hand what you are talking about we have a local Saturday Night Cruise in here every weekend and I am the only Maverick there. All Ford Carlisle has been getting less and less old cars and more & more late model junk every year so it's every where. But your not alone I have a Comet GT almost finished so keep it alive for the rest of us and love your Comet by the way!!!!!!
Mavs and 70's Comets are indeed a rare sight at car shows. I think a lot of it has to do is that with most people thier Mav found them instead of them looking to buy a Mav, which is why there a so few of em compared to mustangs and etc. I went to a pretty big car show awhile ago and when I parked a few streets up by a bunch of houses I got out of my car and the first thing I saw was a nicely restored Maverick sittin in one of the garages. ha. I was suprised, I walked up to the entrance of garage to check it out quick. I didnt see that one or any other mav/comet at the car show but that proves that they are out there.
Well Deac., I do enjoy the fact that not everyone has one. However, I feel in a Blue Oval only gathering w/ around 700 vechicles a little better showing in the Mav/Comet community wud contribute to better recognition when it comes to repro parts, resale value and preservation of the remaining salvageble vechicles. Here is my point in a nutshell. I mentioned at the start of this thread there were 2 Edsels at the event. They were produced from 58 thru 60 w/ 118,287 vechicles during that period. Mav/Comets 70-77 w/ appx 2.8 million produced according to the various club websites. I do believe there are more of us around than them. We show w/ one they show w/ two and station wagon at that, of which "12648" were built. Do u see why I ask -Am I here by myself? Thanks for ur post and all the others who've commented. I do believe this post has generated more traffic than any I've posted __ I don't post that many.
mojo keep me in mind when you have a show your going that local to both of us.my car could have used the drive to kankakee to blow it out a little
When I discovered the event I did post it here on the forum. I do realize not everyone is here as often as I. I did find out abt the event well enough B4 hand to pre-register, only by a day or so. I had to leave the event early 12:30 cuz had another commitment. Anyway, I plan on going to an event in Beecher this Saturday, 7th. Im not sure of exact location, my brother is suppose to get the details. He did say it was in the park. I will email/foward u the details. Beecher is realitively close to Chgo Heights.
Another thing I thought of. Seems there is a lot of interest in Mavericks as "daily drivers". Many on this board drive their Maverick every day and never take it to a car show. I always find it amazing when a new member joins and says he is looking for info about Mavericks because he wants to buy one for his 15 year old son/daughter for a first car. I wonder if that ever happens with an Edsel? I doubt it. Edsels are considered collector cars by pretty much everybody. Just not the case for a Maverick.
