Hi all, the weekend saw the start of a full strip down of my '71 grabber, a couple of mates came over and we got nearly the whole car disassembled in a few hours (taking loads of pics and labelling everything) so it is nearly ready to go on the spit and have the bodywork gone over.

I'm gonna need loads of parts for it shipped over, but I'm not going to get ahead of myself yet! One thing I do need to know is: are all the rubber bushes in the suspension/steering components replaceable or are they bonded/fused into components? Almost all of them are perished and need to know what my best course of action is- get new bushes, new parts, new polybushes or make up my own from ptfe bar etc?!

    Advice welcome!

I would replace the upper and lower control arm assemebly as a whole than trying to rebuilding them. Strut rod and swaybar bushings can be replaced. Rear spring bushings can also be replaced. Sometimes the front spring bushing can be a bear to remove.

So look for completely new wishbones and arms? There wont be any over here but I will also want disc assemblies. If I can change them with a press I am happy to use the original parts, got 2 sets for some reason- found a second set of complete brake and front suspension components in the trunk?!

Do poly bushes make much difference to the ride over rubber ones in a car like this?

Dont use poly bushings in the front suspension other than in the sway bar mounts/endlinks...Waayy too stiff for such a light car...You dont need em unless the car is going to be a dedicated road racer....

In England the Mav aint that light  But I will take your advice and thought as much for a daily driver. Can I get replacement rubbers from anywhere then or do I have to change the components?

Cool cheers for that, there is a LOT of stuff on that site! I'm gonna struggle with terminology though- I need probably every single rubber bush for the car, new ball joints would make sense whilst it's apart though I dont think mine are actually worn out, maybe I am best to just email them and ask for a price for everything!
